Power Trip

Hail to Power Trip

Often in life, we don’t discover the truth about something until it’s too late.

And the truth about Powertrip is that they are an anachronistic anomaly in Thrash Metal: yeah they may have come to power in the late 2000’s and 2010’s but they would sound right at home in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s era of Thrash Metal that we hold so dear.

Sadly, some of us are only just now discovering the band for the very first time upon learning of the unfortunate and untimely passing of Powertrip frontman, Riley Gale.

I’m a little sad that I’m late to the Powertrip party, mainly because it’s TOTALLY fucking old-school thrash, like late 80’s, early 90’s style; that GOOOD thrash.

And they’re playing it in someone’s living room, it’s completely metal as fucking fuck!

Like the best party EVER!

I feel like I’ve always heard of Powertrip in the metal community at large but somehow, they just never crossed my radar, which I find tragically tragic.

Especially considering that I hadn’t really heard Powertrip prior to the passing of Riley Gale.

It saddens me that the metal community lost a great one in Riley Gale, but I’m glad that I’ve found Powertrip, because it’s like its 1988 all over again and it’s time to head to the mall to hand out flyers for a show.

Really, all of Manifest Decimation (2013)

The title track opener (NOT by Exciter) is SICK!!

Heretic’s Fork (Yes!):  The fucking RIFFS!!!

Conditioned to Death (Hahahahaha, FUCK YES!!! The hallmark of any quality thrash band was “are the riffs so badass that they make you laugh?”; if you’re a guitar player you’ll understand.)

Even the solos are old school!  And then back to that groove…mother fucker, that shit is heavy!!

Murderers Row is cool.

Crossbreaker is just a cool groove tune.  It’s got that groove and that thrash vibe to it.  Feels like back in the day to me.  Drown…that’s just hypnotically fucking heavy, that groove.

And now Exciter by Exciter from their album Exciter:  YAHTZEE!!! Just kidding:  It’s Powertrip by Powertrip on their debut album, NOT entitled Powertrip.

Oh fuck…The Hammer of Doubt!!  HAHAHA HELL FUCKING YESS!!!!!

Nightmare Logic (2017):

They definitely get the kudos, commendments and condiments for the album art!  Definitely has the old school feel to it.

Soul Sacrifice has that nice climb; I always dug riffs like that.  Fuck YES!  And what a killer fucking opener.

Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe) is fucking badass!  There’s a video for this tune as well.  Personally, my favorite version of this will be the Strombo version because I heard that version first (and because it was live), but this song is fucking badass!  Those climbing riffs again…YES!

Firing Squad is awesome.

Nightmare Logic:  the build of that riff.  Even the solos are pure shredtastical old school thrash goodness that wouldn’t be out of place on a Forbidden or Exodus album.  These guys write sick fucking riffs; you just can’t listen to this without smiling.  I DARE ya…you just can’t do it.  Waiting around to die.  (Listen to the message at the end…).

Ruination…If Not us then Who?

Crucifixation:  I like this one; got that climbing riff thing again.
