About This Page

The only thing more rewarding than having Waffle House after a show is knowing that you share a city with an established, successful metal band. And when that band is Sevendust — and when some of us knew members of the band from back in the high school days — that connection hits a little differently.

Sevendust are one of Atlanta's finest metal exports — 25+ years of consistently excellent groove-driven, melodic heavy metal, 15 studio albums, and a fanbase that has never wavered. Formed in Atlanta in 1994 and still going strong, they remain one of the most hardworking and beloved bands in modern heavy metal. Go support them at sevendust.com. 🤘

🏫 The Atlanta Metal Lore: Before Sevendust became Sevendust, they went through several name changes — Snake Nation (1994), Rumblefish (1994), and Crawlspace (1994–1995) — playing the Atlanta local scene at venues like The Ozone and Dick Taintler Stadium. "Who remembers Body & Soul and Crawlspace from way back in the day in the ATL?" The early 90s Atlanta metal scene produced Sevendust, Mastodon, Stuck Mojo, and a whole ecosystem of bands that went on to define modern heavy metal. Sevendust — Inside the Metal: Atlanta Edition (Part 1)

August 2022  ·  The inaugural Metal Nerdery Atlanta Edition Inside the Metal

The first-ever Metal Nerdery Inside the Metal ATL Edition — a time-travel through joyous old-school flashbacks, memories of the early 90s Atlanta metal scene, and the full Sevendust catalog. Connects the metal dots from Crawlspace and The Ozone through to one of Atlanta's finest 25+ year careers in heavy metal.

The early Atlanta scene: Body & Soul. Crawlspace. The Ozone. Still Rain. The old-school ATL metal venues. #AtlantaMetalLore. #tangentionalness and the Dick Taintler Stadium. Stuck Mojo for even more Atlanta metal tangentialness. Russell's Reflections on The Ozone. #markthetime.

The catalog covered: Self-Titled debut (1997, TVT Records — produced by Mark Mendoza and Jay Jay French of Twisted Sister): Black (#killeropener, became the opening song for nearly every Sevendust concert until 2004), Bitch, Too Close to Hate. Home (1999): Denial, Reconnect, Licking Cream (with Skunk Anansie's Skin on guest vocals). Animosity (2001): Praise, Live Again, Angel's Son (written and performed for Snot's Lynn Strait after his death — dedicated live at almost every Sevendust show ever since). Seasons (2003): Disease (#killeropener with #allthecokelines), Enemy (the Chyna music video), Separate. Next (2005): Ugly, Failure (#MCTentacleChoice).

Also: Go check out their "Southside Double-Wide" live acoustic album — #SevendustUnplugged. The #COVID disclaimer. #CountingCore #StripperCore. "All the best podcasts have a COVID disclaimer." "Pounding dicks, into the, sand of the O-zone." #markthetime. Part 2 (the "Part Deuce") is coming — the catalog continued beyond Next.

Part 2 is coming: "We'll have to do a Part Deuce in the future." The catalog from Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow (2008) through the most recent release still awaits its full Metal Nerdery treatment. Mastodon — Inside the Metal: "Have you seen those guys from Alpharetta?" The Atlanta metal connection. Sevendust and Mastodon as the two defining pillars of the modern Atlanta heavy metal scene — two very different sounds, the same city, the same work ethic.

The Atlanta Metal Ecosystem: Sevendust, Mastodon, and Stuck Mojo all coming out of the same Atlanta scene is one of the more remarkable stories in modern heavy metal. Three bands, three completely different sounds, one city. The Metal Nerdery crew knows this scene from the inside — which is what makes the ATL Edition episodes special.
