30 Years of Metal Part 2

1990.

3 DECADES OF METAL!!!!!

Continuing with our 3 Part Series on 1990: 30 Years of Metal (Part 2 of 3), we get further into the list, starting with the F’s.***

1990 was a tremendous year for metal, including some of THE greatest Metal Albums of ALL TIME (Forbidden, Megadeth, Slayer…ummmm, YES PLEASE!!). The tidal wave of thrash everyone thought had crested and peaked in the late 1980’s actually plowed on through into the 1990’s, effectively forging a re-engineering of 80’s thrash metal to be even MORE brutally brutal and heavier than EVER in the 90’s.

And it TOTALLY fucking was!!

The riffs, the production, the sound, it was ALL there. The 90’s toned down a lot of the “fluorescence” of the 80’s (Hence “grunge”; the organic earth tone of metal). Musically, the heavy, thrashy bands of the 80’s that we loved became EVEN HEAVIER (thanks in no small part to a band of brothers from Texas, R.I.P.) and the music began to mutate and turn into this whole other thing that was equally as awesometastical as thrash but with like WAYYYY more balls.

Heavy. REALLY heavy! Even the hair metal bands started getting heavy (which, as thrash fans, we would have heckled them mercilessly for…but that was just the time: everyone was more angsty in the 90’s.

That’s what the 90’s were like: very angsty.

So prepare your favorite psychic relaxer of choice and JOIN US as we continue to plow through the list of albums from 1990 that are turning 30 in 2020 (which was really a lot of extra words and numbers and stuff that really didn’t need to be written but I was feeling indulgent so there).
